Welcome to the Website of the St. John of Damascus League of Chanters

Ἂσω τῷ κυρίῳ ἐν τῇ ζωῇ μου, ψαλῶ τῷ θεῷ μου ἕως ὑπάρχω.
I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
(Psalms 104:33)

Welcome to the Website of the St. John of Damascus League (Syllogo) of Chanters.

The League of Chanters, as a ministry of the Metropolis of Chicago, was founded in 1982 by dedicated chanters of our Diocese (at that time) and the blessing of His Grace Bishop Iakovos (of blessed memory).  It was founded as a brotherhood for the chanters and also brought the chanters together for practices and furthering their knowledge of Byzantine Music.  It also aspires to the development and promotion of Byzantine Music to the future Greek-American generations.  The League has prayerfully chanted at Feast Day Vespers of our parishes through the Chicagoland area and also has chanted at numerous events throughout the last 39 years of its existence - including at the Metropolis Open House, various cultural celebrations and for programs highlighting our beloved artform.

The League of Chanters is led by a four-person board, elected every two years.  Although formal membership to the League is encouraged, all chanters of the Metropolis are welcome - with the goal of uniting everyone.  Through this website, the League hopes to offer resources and links for the Metropolis chanters and also help build unity and cooperation for future endeavors.
